E-mail Newsletter November 2014

This e-mail newsletter is the notification of the delayed August 2014 issue that has recently been published. The October 2014 issue will follow shortly afterwards.

Split application of potassium increases wheat yield
and quality

Split application of potassium results in a higher kernel weight, compared to basal potassium fertilisation. Chinese researchers have found this yield increase in field experiments with four winter wheat cultivars. Halving the basal potassium dose and applying the remaining potassium at jointing also improves end-use quality of wheat. More iron and zinc in maize by double banding
ammonium plus phosphate

Twice banding a starter fertiliser comprising ammonium and phosphate enhances iron and zinc uptake by maize on calcareous soils. So it appears from studies conducted by researchers at the China Agricultural University.
