E-mail Newsletter February 2014

This e-mail newsletter is the announcement of the December 2013 issue that will soon be published. The February 2014 issue will follow shortly afterwards.

High nitrogen rates increase micronutrient uptake

High-yielding, modern maize hybrids take up not only more nitrogen from soil, but also more micronutrients. Nitrogen fertiliser rates also influence how much of these nutrients are stored in the grain at harvest. Read more about this phenomenon in the upcoming issue of the Plant nutrition courier.

Criticism of potassium nutrition practices

Soil potassium testing is of no value for predicting soil potassium availability and potassium chloride fertilization seldom pays. Plant nutrition courier summarizes and interprets this provocative study in the upcoming issue.

Selenium protects olive trees from drought stress

Foliar application of selenium to olive trees can be useful to improve drought resistance. Under water stress, selenium application can increase both photosynthesis and fruit yield.

And further

● Wheat root growth is poorly adapted to potassium deficiency
● Melons for potassium-restricted consumers
● Early diagnosing of copper deficiency
● Excessive iron induces nickel deficiency
● Phosphate aggravates iron chlorosis
